The Root of Bitterness

Hebrews 12:14-15, Deuteronomy 29:9-18, Proverbs 14:10, Ephesians 4:29-31

The Root of Bitterness is not some small feeling you can tuck away and pretend God doesn’t see. Hebrews 12 says look diligently, because one bitter root can spring up, trouble you, defile others, and put a soul in danger of falling from grace. This study lays the axe to the root—anger, envy, jealousy, hatred, malice, evil speaking, corrupt communication, and that quiet resentment hiding down in the heart. You may call it “just how I feel,” but the Word calls it bitterness. And if that cuts, it’s supposed to. God is calling His people back to holiness, peace, obedience, and self-examination. Don’t sit in Bible class looking at somebody else—look in the mirror. Don’t talk covenant and then refuse to do the Word. Don’t grieve the Holy Ghost with a mouth full of poison and a heart full of rot. This ain’t optional: follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. Kill the root before it kills your walk, poisons your house, and drags you back to what God already brought you out of.
