“Conversation” ain’t a small matter—not when the Bible says be swift to hear, slow to speak, and let your yes be yes and your no be no. This study puts the tongue on trial: gossip, lying, false reports, cursing, loose talk, and that foolish habit of running your mouth about what you didn’t see and don’t know. God didn’t give you a mouth so you could carry tales and leave innocent blood behind you. If you can’t verify it, don’t spread it. If you weren’t there, hush. That may cut, but it’s supposed to. James, Matthew, Job, Peter, and Proverbs all point to the same hard truth: your speech will betray what’s in you, and an unbridled tongue can drag a soul toward destruction. Job rebuked foolish talk. Peter’s mouth exposed him. Proverbs says the one who keeps his mouth keeps his life. This ain’t about being silent when righteousness needs a witness—it’s about self-control, holiness, and refusing to let the devil use your conversation as a weapon. Learn to listen. Speak with fear of God. Your soul may depend on it.
