A Suffering People

1 Peter 4:12-13,19

“A Suffering People” lays it plain: you’re going to suffer one way or another, so you’d better know what you’re suffering for. If you suffer for lying, disobedience, hypocrisy, rebellion, or chasing money, don’t dress it up like persecution. That’s chastisement, and the way of the transgressor is still hard. But if you suffer for Christ, for truth, for obedience, for standing when the fire gets hot—then don’t think it strange. That fiery trial came to test you, burn the trash out of you, and teach you who to call on. Peter said to commit the keeping of your soul to a faithful Creator. That means stop running to everybody but God when trouble comes. Israel cried in bondage, Daniel stood in the lions’ den, the Hebrew men faced the fire, and Christ suffered for what we could never carry ourselves. This study is a hard warning and a holy comfort: God is not trying to destroy you—He’s trying to make you clean, obedient, and ready for judgment. If that cuts, it’s supposed to. Better the Word cut you now than the final judgment condemn you later.
