The Domino Effect

2 Chronicles 20:30-37, 21:1-15

The Domino Effect is a straight warning about what happens when you obey God halfway. Jehoshaphat had peace, deliverance, and rest because God fought for him—but he didn’t finish the job. He left the high places standing, left the door cracked, and that crack became a collapse. That’s how backsliding works. God can bring you out, but if you keep around the very thing He freed you from, don’t fool yourself—you’re headed back. This study drives it home: liberty isn’t just getting delivered, it’s tearing down what pulls your heart away from God. If that cuts, it’s supposed to. Half-cleaned hearts and half-removed sin always cost more than people think. This lesson also puts a hard spotlight on fellowship, business, and leadership. Jehoshaphat joined himself with wickedness, and the damage didn’t stop with him—it rolled into his house, his son, the people, and the nation. That’s the domino effect. One bad alliance, one act of compromise, one refusal to obey fully, and whole families and churches pay the price. This ain’t optional. The preacher’s job is to warn, and your job is to hear. God didn’t stutter: if He sets you free, clear the house, prepare the heart, and stay in the way of holiness. Because you may get by for a while—but you will not get away.
